This unprecedented pandemic that has hit our world by storm has brought us to our knees hasn’t it? While some are on their knees from physical weakness of the virus, others are on their knees crying out in fear and while, still, others our interceding and praying for the Father’s will to be done. I know, for me, the last one in that list has been where God has put me recently. While I nor my family have been impacted directly by this virus, it has indeed affected me, especially as an pregnant woman.
Doctors and healthcare professionals have warned pregnant women to take extra precaution, as they tend to already be at an “increase[d] risk of infections” while pregnant according to the CDC. We have also been informed that we should prepare to have one, or in some states, no visitors during labor/delivery of our baby. Lastly, most research is so new on this virus that there are a lot of “we don’t knows” floating around on the topic of pregnancy and the Coronavirus.
With the instructions and precautions given to us by our doctors along with the waves and waves of media thrown our way about COVID-19, we pregnant mamas can become overwhelmed quite quickly. From trying to prepare our minds to what it would be like without our closest loved ones being there at the delivery of our baby to the temptation to become obsessed with staying away from ALL THE GERMS.
I found myself battling to not lose focus of Christ during this chaotic and unusual time. That’s when the Holy Spirit did his thing, like he always does--conviction of my sin of worry/stress, direction and wisdom from the Word and comfort through his sweet presence in prayer. I wanted to share with you some truths that are really helping this mama through this season. I pray that these are like a soothing balm to your aching soul!
1. We hide and find help in HIM.
God is our refuge and strength,a very present help in trouble.Psalm 46:1
2. Even when we are exhausted, HE lifts us up.
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31
3. Our ONLY power & strength comes from Christ IN us.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
4. While our sufferings are present and real, they are nothing in comparison to our reward…Christ!
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Romans 8:18
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
Philippians 3:8-11
While it is so easy to grab our phones and begin scrolling on social media or a news app to check the latest article or numbers on the virus, I pray that we would instead grab the Word and cling to His truth. Remember friend, God and HIS truth are unchanging and never fade away! (Isaiah 40:8 & Hebrews 13:8)
Practical tip for pregnant mamas:With the birth of my firstborn, Judson, I created a slideshow with scripture to help encourage me during labor and delivery. I had it set up in my room along with worship music and I am so thankful I did this! I truly know that God’s Spirit and Word strengthened me through one of the hardest processes I have ever gone through. I will definitely be doing this again, especially with the possibility of having no family support in the delivery room. God truly is the ONLY one who can satisfy us and give us the strength we need, not only in labor and delivery of our child, but in EVERY moment!
